Role summary
This role is for a Clinical Support Worker in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. The successful candidate will join a dedicated multidisciplinary team providing same day emergency care to a diverse patient group, including cardiology, respiratory, renal, gastro, elderly, dementia, and frailty patients. The unit is busy and works closely with accident and emergency to ensure safe, quality care and a positive patient journey. The role requires a caring nature, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work 12.5-hour shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays.
Key responsibilities
- Provide same day emergency care to a diverse patient group in the Acute Medical Unit.
- Work closely with accident and emergency to ensure safe and quality patient care.
- Log patient documentation using symphony data, aiming for a paperless environment.
- Work 12.5-hour shifts, including weekdays, bank holidays, and weekends.
- Support personal development within the Same Day Emergency Care team.
Essential criteria
- Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;
- Theoretical knowledge
- Experience of a range of care and related procedures
- Clinical observations
- Knowledge of data protection legislation and health and safety at work legislation
- National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
- Numeracy and Literacy Level 2
- Experience of working in health or social care.
- Experience of undertaking and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings
- Working knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision
- Understanding of the importance of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation.
- Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work.
- Knowledge of Safeguarding.
- Understanding work-related boundaries.
- Awareness of GDPR and the need for confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
- Time-keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
- Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems.
- Analytical and judgement skills to make decisions based on patient / service user interactions, observations and metrics.
- Ability to demonstrate the importance of holistic person centred care and related procedures.

We are seeking to recruit a clinical support worker to work in the acute medical unit (AMU) at the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle. We are a busy, ever changing unit, working closely with accident and emergency to provide safe and quality care, supporting a positive journey for patients.
Main duties of the job
You must have a caring nature, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Essential criteria required for role is to have a care certificate (working towards) will be accepted. The shift pattern is 12.5 hours daily, working weekdays, bank holidays and weekends. Our aim to be paperless, we use symphony data to log patient documentation.
