Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Maternity Care Assistant (MCA) to work in a busy tertiary Fetal Medicine Unit. The role involves supporting women and their families during visits and procedures, working alongside midwives and consultants, and assisting with administrative tasks and data management. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential, with opportunities to learn new specialist skills within the team. Successful candidates will be recruited at Band 3 if they have completed the National Care Certificate and competencies, otherwise they will start at Band 2.
Key responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, individualised personal care to women and their families in the fetal medicine department.
- Act as an advocate and chaperone for women during sensitive examinations.
- Accurately and promptly carry out delegated clinical tasks as directed by Consultants and Midwives.
- Assist consultants during sterile invasive procedures and become proficient in using Astraia software for recording scan measurements.
- Provide administrative support to midwives, receptionists, and manage databases.
- Demonstrate CUH values and behaviours ('Safe, Kind and Excellent') at all times.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in Care/or equivalent
- Literate and numerate
- Clinical Hospital experience
- Experience of working in a core and multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of Maternity Services
- Understanding of confidentiality
- Ability to follow procedures and protocols
- Working knowledge of Child Protection procedures
- Demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to the needs of women and their families
- Keen and enthusiastic approach to work
- Good organization skills/ability to prioritise
- Excellent communication skills
- Effective team member
- Able to accurately and clearly take and record observations
- Able to use initiative and undertake role, seeking guidance as required

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated MCA to gain experience in a busy tertiary Fetal Medicine Unit at a leading teaching hospital.
As a specialist MCA dealing with complicated fetal issues, you will work alongside midwives, assist consultants and the Multidisciplinary Team. You will be responsible for supporting the women and their families during their visits and procedures. This is an opportunity to learn new skills and be part of a specialist team.
Excellent communication skills are essential for this role. Good organisational skills and IT literacy will be required as you will be assisting with administrative tasks for patient flow through the department and data management.
You will be recruited at Band 2 if you have not yet completed CUH HCSW induction which includes completion of the Care Certificate and Competencies. Once completed you will move up to Band 3. If you are currently working in a support worker role and have therefore completed these, you will be recruited as Band 3
