Role summary
This role is for a Health Care Assistant on Oak Ward, a 12-bed male intensive inpatient psychiatric unit. The successful candidate will support service users and work alongside experienced practitioners to assess individuals and identify appropriate treatment pathways. It requires initiative, mature judgment, and experience in mental health and caring for vulnerable adults.
Key responsibilities
- Display a considerable degree of initiative and possess mature judgment.
- Maintain a calm, friendly and efficient manner when dealing with service users, their relatives, the police, colleagues and visitors.
- Have experience in mental health.
- Have experience of caring for vulnerable adults.
- Organise day to day tasks and activities based on an agreed work plan.
- Provide support to both health and social care professionals.
Essential criteria
- NVQ 3
- Some experience as a Band 2 HCA
- Recognises and reflects on barriers to effective communication, modifying communication in response
- Keeps accurate and complete records and communication consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
- Demonstrate good verbal presentation skills
- Demonstrate good decision making skills
- Flexible and responsive approach to care
- Knowledge and ability to positively manage change
- Ability to identify and manage changes to clinical risks
Desirable criteria
- De-escalation in managing verbal aggression of disturbed service users
