Role summary
This role involves assisting physiotherapists in providing high-standard patient care within the renal physiotherapy team. The post holder will undertake delegated clinical programmes, rehabilitate renal patients, and progress treatments according to departmental protocols. Administrative duties are also required to support the department's functioning.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge and skills gained through practical experience e.g. external courses, CPD portfolio, practical assessment through supervision/appraisal in a therapy unit/rehabilitation setting

- GCSE or equivalent in English and/or Maths
- Skills and Experience
- Experience as a Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy assistant or rehabilitation assistant or similar
- Experience of facilitating exercise classes and understanding of exercise physiology
- Experience of administrative work e.g. photocopying and filing
- Good team working skills conditions
- Able to deal with people who have difficulty communicating
- Evidence of being self motivated and able to motivate patients
- Able to learn new procedures and techniques and follow instructions
- Able to recognise boundaries of own practice and responsibility
- Education

Job summary
To work as a member of the renal physiotherapy team assisting the physiotherapists to provide a high standard of patient care by undertaking delegated clinical programmes of management. The post holder will assist with the rehabilitation of renal patients, progressing treatments in line with departmental protocols. The post holder will also undertake administrative duties to support the functioning of the department.
Main duties of the job
- Once inducted, to work with minimal or no direct supervision of a physiotherapist.
- To manage the physiotherapy rehabilitation of own caseload of patients as delegated by the physiotherapist
- To assist with the care of patients including receiving them, transporting to treatment area, preparing drinks, supervising or assisting with drinking, toileting, dressing and undressing in preparation for their treatment programme.
- To provide treatment to patients in line with established treatment programmes, utilising a variety of basic physiotherapy techniques such as assisting a patient with specific exercises
- To progress patients undergoing routine physiotherapy programmes in line with established protocols, reporting back to the physiotherapist as required
- To be able to recognise change in the condition of a patient, decide whether to treat and watch and document the patient response/reaction to any treatment undertake
