Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join a well-established Intermediate Care team. The role involves leading occupational therapy provision to support safe and timely discharges, primarily at the Royal Quays unit, with cross-site support to the Cramlington unit. The post holder will manage their own caseload, supervise junior staff, and work within a multidisciplinary team, facilitating discharges through rehabilitation and discharge to assess models. Experience with various medical conditions, including frailty and orthopaedics, is essential. Service hours include weekend working, with potential for extended contractual hours in the future.
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
- State registered with Health Professions Council
- Practice placement qualification
- Qualified for a minimum of 18 months
- Experience and knowledge
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development.
- Substantial post registration experience with relevant experience in specialist area including individual and group work.
- Experience and working understanding of audit procedures.

- Experience of providing O.T. in varied settings.
- Experience of research procedures
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our well established team within Intermediate Care. The post holder will work primarily as part of a multidisciplinary team on the Royal Quays unit leading occupational therapy provision to support safe and timely discharges. The post holder is also expected to support cross site into the other intermediate care unit based in Cramlington. The post holder will be expected to work through the rehabilitation model but also facilitate local discharges utilising a discharge to assess model.
The successful candidate will have experience working with patients with a wide variety of conditions within a range of medical specialities including frailty/elderly medicine, and orthopaedics. The post holder will be able to manage their own caseload as well as supervise junior and support staff on a daily basis.
Service hours are currently 0800-1800 seven days a week. There is an expectation of weekend working across other Northumbria Healthcare sites. Contractual hours are between 0800-2000 and this may be implemented in the future.
