Role summary

This role is for a Specialist Children's Community Occupational Therapist within the Evelina Community OT team, serving Lambeth and Southwark. The post holder will assess and treat children aged 0-19 with various developmental conditions, working across community sites, homes, and schools. The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team and supporting SEND reforms. The service uses the Canadian Model of Occupational Performance and Engagement to guide clinical practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide an advanced standard of occupational therapy assessment, treatment, management, and advice to paediatric patients aged 0-19, their families, and carers within the community setting.
  • Work as a lone practitioner, unsupervised, and at times in conjunction with less senior team colleagues across various community locations.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide universal and targeted support to assist the teaching workforce.
  • Support the inclusion and integration of children with additional needs into education and school settings.

Essential criteria

  • State registered Occupational Therapist (Health and Care Professions Council)
  • Recognised training course for an Occupational therapist (e.g. PGDip or degree).
  • Able to organise and manage own caseload.
  • Able to work without direct supervision
  • Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner.
  • Able to set collaborative goals with client's and families.
  • Have an awareness or understanding of Safeguarding
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations.
  • Able to work closely with team members.
  • Be responsive to change and ideas- adapt to new systems, flexible working patterns.
  • Ability to work from home when required.
  • Post registration experience
  • Working knowledge of the implementation of OT models of practice
  • Have knowledge of typical child development
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team or multi-agency working

  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapy
  • Member of Children's and Young Person special interest group
  • Able to assess children.
  • Involvement in service innovation/development
  • Able to drive a car in the community setting
  • Post registration experience of paediatrics.

  • Experience of managing occupational therapy support staff
