Role summary

This role involves driving patients safely across Hampshire to and from medical appointments, assisting with their mobility, and providing compassionate care. You will operate a long wheel-base vehicle, manage shift work, and ensure patient dignity and comfort. Physical fitness and excellent communication skills are essential for this hands-on position.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan journeys considering patient appointments and efficient routes.
  • Drive vehicles carefully, ensuring patient safety and compliance with road traffic legislation.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks and record any defects.
  • Administer ambulance nursing to an appropriate skill level, including oxygen administration.
  • Manoeuvre and secure patients into ambulance vehicles using appropriate equipment.
  • Maintain good communication with patients, colleagues, and health services.

Essential criteria

  • Full manual UK driving licence with no more than 3 points for speeding (any offence relating to drink/drugs on the licence will be rejected)
  • GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent) in Maths or English or demonstrable experience
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively: aurally, orally and in writing
  • Ability to use communication and computerised systems e.g. Terrafix and mobile phones

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of self development CPD / Portfolio
  • Previous patient care experience
  • Previous shift working experience
  • Previous NHS experience
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology (e.g. Biology Qualification)
  • Geographical knowledge of operational area (Hampshire; Eastleigh/Basingstoke/Portsmouth)
  • Demonstrable experience as an ACA
  • Previous manual handling experience in a professional capacity
