Role summary

This role is for an enthusiastic and creative Assistant Psychologist to join a multidisciplinary learning disability community health team. The post-holder will work under the supervision of a senior clinical psychologist, assisting in the delivery of psychological support to adults with a learning disability. This includes undertaking assessments and delivering person-centred interventions. The team has strong links with local clinical psychology training courses.

Key responsibilities

  • Gather, analyse and interpret relevant psychological and clinical information to support assessment and formulation under supervision.
  • Apply psychological knowledge and evidence-based approaches when considering individual needs and contributing to clinical decision-making.
  • Use appropriate judgement when identifying concerns, recognising limitations of own knowledge and skills, and seeking advice or supervision.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records and use information from a range of sources to support the planning and delivery of psychological interventions.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and review of interventions and projects, using relevant data and feedback to inform practice.

Essential criteria

  • An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Eligibility for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
  • A good knowledge of lifespan psychology applied to health care.
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with psychological/mental health difficulties or other disabilities.
  • Ability to undertake psychologically informed research projects, under supervision.
  • Experience using computers for databases or data- analysis.
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and of different ages.

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person to join our team and to be a part of our multidisciplinary learning disability community health team. The team has bases in both Barrow in Furness and Kendal. As a profession, we have excellent links with local clinical psychology training courses (Lancaster, Liverpool and Manchester).

The post-holder will receive regular supervision from a senior qualified clinical psychologist.

An upper second-class degree or above in Psychology and eligibility for graduate BPS membership is essential.

This post offers the opportunity to joint work within a thriving multidisciplinary team for adults with a learning disability.
