Role summary

The Admissions Booking Officer will coordinate patient admissions to the pre-operative assessment unit and elective admissions wards. This role involves scheduling operations to ensure an efficient, timely, and patient-focused service, meeting clinical needs within NHS timeframes. The successful candidate will need excellent time management and organisational skills, and a flexible approach to duties.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate the admission of patients to the pre-operative assessment unit and elective admissions wards.
  • Schedule operations ensuring an efficient, timely and patient focused service is provided.
  • Ensure clinical needs of patients are met in accordance with the current operating framework and the NHS constitution.
  • Use Microsoft Office packages and a range of computer systems to collate information and escalate potential problem areas.
  • Work to tight deadlines and withstand the pressure of a busy department, using own initiative.

Essential criteria

  • GCSE standard or higher
  • NVQ in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge through formal training or experience
  • Good English language skills
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Significant experience in a similar role or equivalent knowledge
  • Able to deal with the public in person and via telephone
  • Knowledge of Referral to Treatment (RTT) waiting time rules
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to communicate professionally at all levels
  • Excellent customers care skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work using own initiative with limited supervision
  • Able to use own initiative and respond to new challenges, knowing when to escalate
  • Able to use own initiative to solve problems

Job summary

The Surgery Division is looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Admissions Officer to pro-actively co-ordinate the admission of patients to the pre-operative assessment unit and elective admissions wards. To schedule operations ensuring that an efficient, timely and patient focused service is provided and the clinical needs of patients are met in accordance with the current NHS time frames.

This demanding role will require excellent time management and organisational skills. The successful candidate must be able to prioritise their own workload and will require a flexible approach to their duties.

Main duties of the job

To co-ordinate the admission of patients to the pre-operative assessment unit and elective admissions wards.

To schedule operations ensuring that an efficient, timely and patient focused service is provided and the clinical needs of patients are met in accordance with the current operating framework and the NHS constitution.

The post holder should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages. Ability to use a range of computer systems to collate information and escalate potential problem areas. Training will be given where necessary for internal IT systems.
