Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Professional to join the Operational Site Team and Command Centre at Derriford Hospital. The role involves providing operational leadership, managing patient flow, and coordinating patient movements across the Trust. The successful candidate will work rotational shifts, including nights and weekends, and will be responsible for managing the bed management team and escalating capacity issues. This position requires strong leadership skills and a clear understanding of organisational and national service requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate patient movements within the Trust to optimize patient flow and meet government standards.
- Run patient flow meetings on weekdays, ensuring attendance and managing action logs.
- Produce accurate, up-to-date bed states and maintain the accuracy of visual hospital boards (Salus).
- Provide site management 7 days a week.
- Manage the bed management team on a day-to-day basis.
- Challenge wards/clinical teams when patients extend beyond their predicted date of discharge.
- Escalate capacity and demand issues with on-call ED and on-call [contact details removed].
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience within similar role
- Motivation and ability to ensure improvement in patient care and service delivery
- NMC registered nurse or Allied Health Professional.
- Degree qualification in a healthcare related subject / or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills
- Methodical, organised with excellent time management skills
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of NHS policies and documents
- Completion of Foundation/ Middle or other Management programmes
- Ability to interpret the Trust's policy on Violence and Aggression to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and colleagues
