Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and dedicated Support Time Recovery Worker within the Assertive Outreach Team (AOT) in Bournemouth. You will support patients with serious mental illness, focusing on those with co-occurring addictions, to promote their recovery and maintain them in their community environment. The position involves developing trusting relationships with patients, formulating and delivering individualised care plans, and working creatively to provide high-standard care. The service operates Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00, and requires the ability to drive your own vehicle for Trust business.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support and time to an allocated group of service users to promote their recovery and maintain them in their community environment.
- Assess, plan, promote, and review individualised activity plans using team procedures.
- Take a lead focus on supporting patients with co-occurring addictions (dual diagnosis).
- Deal calmly with potentially challenging situations and people, such as verbal/physical aggression in a clinical setting.
- Carry out extensive physical observations without supervision.
Essential criteria
- In possession of or ability to attain NVQ Level 3 in care, or equivalent
- Commitment to undertake Continuing Personal Development.
- Previous experience with Dual Diagnosis
- Ability to listen effectively and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Written communication skills to enable completion of records.
- Ability to form positive therapeutic relationships with service users and carers.
- Ability to acknowledge diversity and promote antidiscriminatory practice/equal opportunities.
- An understanding of the mental health system.
- Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business.
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable the post holder to carry out the role effectively.
- Experience of mental health services (as a worker or service user/carer).
- Experience of dealing with emotional distress.
- Experience of supporting socially excluded groups of people gain and retain work.
