Role summary
This is a permanent Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist role within the Children's Community Speech and Language Therapy Service in Milton Keynes. The post involves working with early years and early years complex needs teams to support children and families with speech, language, and communication needs. You will also provide clinical guidance, supervision, and mentorship to associate practitioners.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Early Years teams in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to children with complex needs.
- Support speech and language therapy associate practitioners.
- Devise therapy plans for associate practitioners.
- Offer clinical guidance, supervision, and mentorship to associate practitioners.
Essential criteria
- Registration with Health Professions Council as a speech and language therapist
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent
- Registered member of RCSLT
- Evidence of student placements/ experience reflecting clinical caseload
- Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group.
- Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group
- Awareness of prioritisation issues within client group
- Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of individuals from minority groups
- Ability to liaise and work with other professionals and agencies
- Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group
- Awareness of principles of clinical governance
- Demonstrate ability to be a good team member
- Strong interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Excellent presentation skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrate good organisational, analytical and reflection skills
- Is able to independently travel across the city, carrying all necessary equipment safely
- Evidence of collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Desirable criteria
- oMembership to appropriate CEN
- Foundation level dysphagia knowledge to support identification and referral on to dysphagia team.
