Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join West London Forensic Service. The role involves facilitating and promoting research activity, including identifying and recruiting patients, maintaining databases, undertaking data entry and statistical analysis, and contributing to study findings dissemination. The post-holder will work closely with the WLFS Research Lead and other clinicians to develop and promote research within the organisation. This is a fixed-term post for 18 months.
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a healthcare-related field
- Phlebotomy trained, or a willingness to learn
Desirable criteria
- ICH Good Clinical Practice
- Experience working in an NHS based health or social care environment with service user contact.
- Ability to receive, analyse and handle large volumes of complex, sensitive and highly confidential information
- Demonstrable ability to communicate complex information to a range of audiences and through a variety of mediums with confidence, empathy and enthusiasm.
- Project management experience
- Data analysis and statistical skills and knowledge, including the use of software packages such as SPSS and Excel
- Excellent organisational skills including the ability to establish appropriate documentation and record keeping
- Willing to undertake training (if necessary) to deliver assessments and take clinical samples from study participants.
- High level of interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to work with clinical and management colleagues at all levels across a range of organisations
- Experience of public speaking
- Advanced data analysis skills and statistical knowledge

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a relevant degree or equivalent healthcare related experience to join West London Forensic Service as a Research Assistant. We are looking for enthusiastic candidates who are passionate about research and helping to improve clinical care.
The main duties of the post-holder will relate to facilitating and promoting research activity within West London Forensic Service (WLFS). This will include identifying, recruiting and supporting patients through the research process as well as providing support as necessary to research active teams and clinicians within the service. The post-holder will develop and maintain research related databases, undertake data entry and statistical analysis using appropriate software packages, as well as contribute to writing up and dissemination of study findings.
The post is based within WLFS, which is a large forensic mental health service providing care to service users across different levels of security (medium and low security as well as the community). WLFS is an organisation that is very supportive of research and is keen to promote research activity in order to improve patient care, service user satisfaction and staff recruitment and retention.
