Role summary

This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in an Acute Stroke and Frailty Ward. The role involves providing high-quality patient care, demonstrating leadership, and managing the ward budget. The successful candidate will be an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic nurse with a keen interest in acute patient needs. The ward offers a supportive environment committed to high standards of nursing care.

Key responsibilities

  • Exercise 24-hour accountability for ward management and delivery of compassionate, high-quality nursing care.
  • Provide visible, professional nursing leadership, support, supervision, and expert clinical advice.
  • Be responsible for the efficient management of the ward budget and effective deployment of the nursing team.
  • Work and communicate effectively as a member of the senior clinical and nursing leadership team, deputising for the SNM when required.
  • Create and promote a learning culture within the clinical area to support professional growth of nursing staff and students.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse (Part 1)
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent experience)
  • Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development/ experience AND a willingness to undertake appropriate post graduate level study when in post)
  • Bronze IQT
  • Teaching/Coaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of legislation pertinent to role
  • Proven and relevant experience at Band 6
  • Appropriate experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
  • Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2018)
  • Proven post-registration experience and evidence of coordinating and managing a team of staff
  • Able to demonstrate an awareness of professional issues and developments
  • Evidence of working in a multi-professional environment
  • Experience in budget management
  • Experience of effective staff management
  • Experience of running a ward/area/department
  • Experience of mentoring preregistration nursing/midwifery students
  • IT Skills
  • Able to relate theory into practice through reflective skills
  • Good knowledge of information governance/data protection requirements
