Role summary

This role involves providing comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Bone and Soft Tissue Team within the Musculoskeletal Service at Freeman Hospital. The successful candidate will work closely with Consultants and clinical teams, managing diaries, patient records, referrals, and communications. It requires a professional attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a busy environment. The position supports both adult and paediatric regional and national services.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out secretarial duties including data entry, telephone calls, clinical and non-clinical typing, and use of the hospital patient administration system.
  • Coordinate patient records, test results, and outpatient clinics, as well as managing diaries for Consultants and Specialist Nurses.
  • Process referrals and direct patient enquiries, communicating with carers and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Manage patient tracking lists and accurately record RTT pathways.
  • Attend MDT meetings and record outcomes when required.
  • Provide comprehensive secretarial support to Consultants, Medical Staff, and other clinical team members.

Essential criteria

  • oLevel 3 qualification in administration or equivalent/relevant experience in administrative role(s)
  • oEnglish qualification at Level 2 (GCSE Grades 9-4 or A*-C, or Functional or Key Skills at Level 2)
  • oMaths qualification at Level 1 (GCSE Grades 3-2 or D-F, or Functional or Key Skills at Level 1
  • oExperience of secretarial/administrative procedures
  • oIT Skills to include MS Office software packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • oAdvanced keyboard skills including a high standard of word processing skills
  • oExcellent communication skills
  • oAbility to work without direct supervision
  • oAbility to manage time effectively and work on own initiative
  • oAbility to accurately input, collate and present information
  • Understanding of confidentiality

Desirable criteria

  • oNHS Administration/Secretarial experience
  • oWorking Knowledge of NHS Systems e.g. eRecord, System One
  • oKnowledge of medical terminology

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work as a Clinical Administrator supporting the Bone and Soft Tissue Team within the Musculoskeletal Service at Freeman Hospital.

You will work closely with the Consultants and clinical teams, supporting the work of our department in the provision of an efficient and effective service.

The team offers regional and national services for both adults, and paediatrics and the role provides this diversity.

The successful candidate should possess a professional attitude to their work and can work flexibly in a busy environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will be expected to work flexibly to support the Directorate and be willing to embrace change.
