Role summary
This role supports the HR Business Partner approach by providing a comprehensive and developmental Employee Relations (ER) service to managers across all divisions. The advisor will offer professional guidance on employment law, HR policies, and terms and conditions, aiming to enhance workforce productivity and performance. Key responsibilities include advising on sickness absence, performance, conduct, grievance, and bullying and harassment issues. The role also involves supporting the implementation of HR policies and promoting engagement with the e-HR system.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and guidance on employment law, best practice, and Agenda for Change terms & conditions to line managers.
- Advise on HR policies and procedures, supporting managers in taking appropriate action and ensuring consistent application.
- Attend meetings and hearings to coach and support managers on issues such as grievance, bullying, harassment, performance, conduct, sickness absence, and redeployment.
- Offer responsive, customer-focused advisory services to line managers on managing individual sickness absence, performance, and conduct cases.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to meet Trust needs and employment legislation.
- Promote engagement with the e-HR system and maintain/update content on the HR Portal.
Essential criteria
- Part qualified or work towards level 5 CIPD qualification
- Certificate in Personnel Practice.
- Proven evidence of CPD.

- Knowledge & Experience
- Thorough understanding of HR practices including ACAS and Employment Law.
- Significant demonstrable experience of Human Resources issues in a large complex organisation including sickness absence management, employment law and performance management issues.
- Proven knowledge of Equality and Diversity including associated legislation.
- Proven knowledge and understanding of key NHS issues including national and local policy drivers.
- Aptitude & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and ability to use other systems as required.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise.
- Ability to communicate with staff at all levels of the organisation.
- Ability to work flexibly to respond to changing service priorities.
- Confidence to take decisions at the appropriate level.
