Role summary
This role is for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the expanding Stroke Service at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including a new Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit (HASU). You will deliver high-quality, time-critical stroke care across the full pathway, working with a multidisciplinary team. The position involves providing safe, compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with complex neurological needs and contributing to service development.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of ability to practice as a proficient practitioner.
- Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors.
- Evidence of ability to manage time 2 effectively.
- Understanding of clinical governance and its requirements.
- Evidence of an interest in stroke care and 2 stroke management
- Evidence of ability to develop leadership skills.
- Knowledge of clinical audit.
- Evidence of critical appraisal skills.
- Education, Qualification and Training
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (Part 1 Adult/ General Level 1 or 2)
- Evidence of CPD ideally in relation to stroke care
- Teaching qualification. Practice Supervisor/ Practice Assessor
- Knowledge and Experience
- Significant & recent post registration experience is in an acute hospital setting within the UK.
- Understanding of current professional nursing issues.

We are recruiting Band 5 Registered Nurses who want to make a real difference at one of the most critical moments in a person's life.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking team delivering high-quality, time-critical stroke care across the full pathway -- hyper-acute, acute, and early rehabilitation.
As a Band 5 Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-based care to patients with complex neurological needs. You will work closely with our Stroke Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Therapists, and wider MDT to support patients through some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
