Role summary
This role is for an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Interventional Radiology (DSA) Suite. You will assist with a variety of interventional procedures and patient care across different imaging modalities. The position involves a comprehensive training program and requires participation in an emergency out-of-hours on-call rota. There is potential for career progression to a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with interventional procedures such as vascular angiography, nephrostomies, and pacemaker insertion.
- Provide care for patients attending other Medical Imaging modalities like CT and ultrasound.
- Contribute to the Radiology nurse/radiographer led vascular access service.
- Participate in a comprehensive training programme to develop skills as a scrub and circulating nurse.
- Provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-recovery care for patients.
- Take part in the emergency out of hours on call rota, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Essential criteria
- Recent experience in an Acute Hospital clinical setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience in interventional radiology or cardiology or similar acute care setting
- Scrub experience
- Qualifications & Training
- Adult Nurse/RGN with current NMC registration
- Up to date knowledge of professional issues
- Up to date with mandatory training
- Able to demonstrate professional development post registration
- Clinical skills of peripheral cannulation and intravenous drug administration
- Immediate Life Support (ILS)
- Personal Attributes & Skills
- Caring attitude towards patients
- Communicate effectively with colleagues/staff at all levels both verbally and via written documentation
- Ability to deal with clients who have barriers to communication (language, deafness, learning difficulties)
- Able to maintain patient confidentiality
- Team player
- Ability to work independently when required
- Able to work under pressure
- Follow protocols but able to evaluate the need for consultation with senior colleagues
- Logical & methodical manner
- Able to accommodate the demands of the post as required with flexible working and good attendance.
- Able to commit to being part of an out of hours on call rota
- Able to travel to all Trust sites independently as required
- Knowledge & Experience

Job summary
The Interventional Radiology (DSA) Suite is one of the specialist modalities within the wider Radiology Department. The service currently operates Monday to Friday 08.30 to 17.00 plus an emergency out of hours on call service including evenings and weekends.
The modality specialises in interventional procedures such as vascular angiography, nephrostomies, biliary stenting, embolisation, ultrasound guided biopsies, diagnostic coronary angiography and pacemaker insertion to name just a few. The nursing team is also responsible for assisting with the care of patients attending other Medical Imaging modalities such as CT, ultrasound and the main x ray department. Finally we also provide the Radiology nurse/radiographer led vascular access service for the Trust.
The Interventional Radiology (DSA) Suite is a very exciting, dynamic and interesting place to work. The post holder will be part of a small, established team of nurses, radiographers, Consultants and support staff who are all committed to providing our patients with the highest possible standard of care.
