Role summary
This role involves working in a busy Appointments Office, managing outpatient waiting lists and ensuring national targets are met. The post holder will handle patient queries, make appointments using the Patient Administration System, and manage the Electronic Booking Service. They will also be responsible for adhering to Trust policies and national waiting list targets, ensuring timely and appropriate patient appointments.
Essential criteria
- Good general education to equivalent to A level standard.
- Computer literacy to ECDL level or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of PAS (hospital based IT system)
- Understanding of equal opportunities
- Knowledge of waiting list targets and knowledge of clinical pathways to assist in determining the content of appointment letters and subsequent appropriate booking
- Ability to undertake specific booking training and deliver training to others
- Understanding the importance of patient confidentiality and booking management
- Experience of booking patients onto a health care appointments system
- Experience of booking and manipulating patient data in order to achieve national waiting list targets
- Ability to undertake specific booking training and deliver training to others
- Able to demonstrate initiative and problem solving / analytical skills especially to ensure that diagnostic and therapeutic
- Experience of working within an NHS environment - ideally in PAS systems management
- Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication in relation to the complex issues associated with patient choice and national booking targets

Job summary

The post holder will be a part of the busy Appointments Office working as a member of the team, helping to maintain and improve our waiting list targets and deal with the day to day queries from patients, General Practitioners, Consultants, wards and departments.
The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of outpatient waiting lists. They will be responsible for complying with Trust Waiting List Policy and National Waiting List targets by ensuring patients are given appointments on the appropriate clinic as soon as possible according to their clinical priority. They will also ensure clinics are filled in accordance with clinic rules and advanced booking processes.
The post holder will be required to rotate between all roles within the department and cover for other members of the team as appropriate for annual and sick leave.
