Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and motivated Audiology Associate to join a countywide Audiology team, primarily based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The successful candidate will support ENT services by undertaking routine diagnostic assessments and audiology activities, ensuring accurate and timely information for patient care. They will work within established guidelines, maintain clinical records, and contribute to a positive patient experience. The service provides comprehensive adult and paediatric hearing and balance services, focusing on high-quality, patient-centred care.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake routine diagnostic assessments and provide accurate, timely audiological information to support patient assessment, diagnosis and management.
- Perform a range of routine audiology activities under direct or indirect supervision, including elements of the Direct Access Hearing [contact details removed] (DAHAP), hearing aid follow-up, and routine diagnostic testing.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues.
- Organise own workload within agreed protocols, accessing senior clinical advice and supervision as required.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and health and safety activities.
- Participate in mandatory training, appraisal, continuing professional development, and departmental meetings.
Essential criteria
- Level 5 Foundation degree in Audiology (or equivalent)
- AHCS/HCPC registered (Healthcare Science Associate- audiology) or application in progress.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of BAA, BSA or other professional body
- Competence in routine audiology tests and rehabilitation procedures
- Comprehensive rehabilitation techniques, including counselling distressed patients / carers about hearing loss and associated problems
- Experience with children or feel confident to work with children
- Experience with Audiology specific IT systems
- Voluntary work
- Experience of Microsoft office/Teams
- Evidence of ongoing personal development
- Skills and Knowledge
- Good organisational/prioritisation skills
- Ability to work with high level of autonomy in clinical and non-clinical situations including assessment, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and management of patients and their families.
- Ability to work calmly and methodically when under pressure from a busy and varied caseload, demonstrating good prioritisation and organisational skills
- Ability to maintain concentration in order to obtain accurate results throughout busy clinics applying information to the management of patients
- Able to work alone and as part of a team
- Experience with Oticon hearing aids
- Experience with audits
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to identify and overcome barriers to all communication with patients of all ages, including those with additional needs such as profound deafness, learning disabilities or where patients are reliant on sign or language interpreters
- Able to adapt communication to meet the needs of the situation, including in stressful or conflict clinical and non-clinical situations
- Ability to educate, empathize, support, negotiate and motivate including times where co-operation is not guaranteed
