Role summary
The Ward Administrator provides front-line reception services and high-standard customer care to patients, relatives, and the multi-disciplinary team. This role involves proactively collecting, investigating, verifying, and recording patient demographic and treatment data. Key responsibilities
- Provide a front of house reception service and direct as appropriate.
- Answer telephones and ensure bed boards are up to date.
- Handle transport bookings and provide weekly/monthly ward activity figures.
- Provide confidential and high-standard general administrative support to the ward/unit.
- Ensure all patient admissions, discharges, and attendances are accurately recorded on Cerner or relevant electronic systems in real time.
- Sort incoming/outgoing post and distribute or act as necessary.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
- Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
- Previous work experience in a healthcare setting
- Experience of working in a public/patient facing role
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to use initiative and problem solve, in a busy clinical environment
- Typing and data entry skills
- Good level of computer literacy skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service
- Time management and organisational skills
- Sympathetic attitude to patients and relatives, who may be extremely distressed or anxious
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to people at all levels
- The ability to manage conflict and identify where escalation to senior staff is necessary

Job summary
