Role summary
This role is for a qualified Clinical Biochemistry practitioner/scientist within Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS). The successful candidate will provide routine and specialist laboratory services, support clinicians, and contribute to service improvements. Key responsibilities include delivering a safe, high-quality Clinical Biochemistry service, providing scientific and clinical support, and engaging in teaching and training.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a scientific and clinical service as a qualified Clinical Biochemistry practitioner.
- Perform and review biochemical investigations, ensuring accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate results.
- Respond to clinical enquiries and provide scientific advice.
- Help develop and verify new assays, including reviewing scientific evidence and testing analytical performance.
- Contribute to the evaluation of analytical equipment, systems of work, and new methodologies.
- Supervise and train less experienced staff as necessary.
Essential criteria
- BSc Degree in Relevant Speciality
- Completion (or expected to complete within 5 months) the Scientific Training Programme for Clinical Scientists, including Masters in relevant specialist subject.
- Health Care Professions Council State Registration as a Clinical Scientist (or expected to complete registration within 6 months).
- Evidence of CPD.
- Experience of UKAS requirements for laboratory.
- Used to working in a busy environment.
- Willing to engage with and learn from peers, other professionals and colleagues in the desire to provide or support the most appropriate interventions.
- Highly motivated with ability to influence and inspire others.
- Attention to detail.
- Demonstrates a strong desire to improve performance and make a difference by focusing on goals.
Desirable criteria
- Part 1 FRCPath
- Relevant PhD.
- Experience of managing and motivating a team.
- A thorough clinical and technical knowledge of testing in chosen specialist discipline
- Good leadership and management skills.
- Conversant with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations and other Health and Safety regulations as applied to the clinical laboratory.
