Role summary

This role is for a Senior Financial Accounting Officer within the Financial Accounting and Governance team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The successful candidate will support the finance team in managing the Trust's £1.6 billion annual spend, ensuring best value for money and patient care. It requires strong financial experience, IT skills, and the ability to manage competing deadlines. This is a fixed-term position for up to twelve months, covering maternity leave.

Key responsibilities

  • Support a first-class Finance team to ensure best possible care to patients and deliver best value for money.
  • Work closely with a friendly and supportive team as well as clinical and corporate colleagues.
  • Balance and prioritise competing work deadlines.
  • Demonstrate good technical competence combined with the ability to communicate effectively.

Essential criteria

  • 5 GCSE including Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above and 2 A Levels
  • AAT qualified or equivalent demonstrable qualification.
  • Sufficient and relevant experience of working in a Financial Accounting/Treasury Management environment.
  • Demonstrably good IT skills including Excel Advanced level as regular user.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional credibility with Service Managers and other Directorate colleagues
  • Ability to meet deadlines through effective organisational and planning skills
  • Good written and verbal reasoning communication skills
  • Concentration skills to undertake complex and involved analysis
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with external bodies.
  • Evidence of current CPD

Desirable criteria

  • Honours Degree
  • European Computer Driving Licence (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in NHS Finance in an Acute Hospital
  • Access Database skills
  • Experience of Integrated ledger systems
  • Negotiation and persuasion skills
