Role summary

This role is for a Cardiology Pre-assessment Nurse Practitioner to join the Cardio Thoracic Nurse Case manager team. The successful candidate will provide pre-operative assessment for patients undergoing Cardio Thoracic surgery and Cardiology interventions, working independently under supervision. Responsibilities include patient assessment, examination, formulating management plans, and undertaking preparatory work for surgical and cardiology interventions. The role requires adaptability, flexibility, and experience in supporting patients with Cardiovascular & Thoracic disease.

Key responsibilities

  • Work as an independent Practitioner under the supervision of a Senior Nurse Practitioner / Nurse Case Manager or Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP).
  • Undertake competency-based patient assessment and examination to formulate management plans for specific patient groups.
  • Perform all preparatory work prior to patients undergoing surgical and cardiology intervention, including consent and requesting investigations.
  • Highlight any potential complications to the Senior Nurse Practitioner / Nurse case manager or relevant medical colleague.
  • Work to a rota and complete all Nurse Practitioner competencies, including History Taking and Physical Examination.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Evidence of on-going personal development.
  • Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
  • Evidence of supporting learners in practice
  • Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • History taking and Physical Assessment experience / course and competencies
  • Significant post registration experience within a surgical setting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and fulfil service requirements
