Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified or pre-registration Pharmacy Technician to join a progressive Pharmacy Team. The role involves dispensing for in-patients, including clinical trials and controlled drugs, and delivering ward-based medicines management services. The successful candidate will also gain experience in preparing chemotherapy and intravenous preparations in Technical Services. The position is primarily based at Pinderfields Hospital but requires working across other Trust sites.
Key responsibilities
- Dispense and issue medicines to patients, ensuring all necessary information is available.
- Record information for stock control and prescription issues using paper and computerised systems.
- Liaise with Procurement about urgently required medicines and inform staff/patients about supply problems.
- Dispense clinical trial medication and complete all required documentation following SOPs.
- Dispense specialist hospital-only and unlicensed medicines, maintaining accurate records.
- Educate patients on treatment changes and medicine management, including self-administration schemes.
Essential criteria
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent
- Experience in NHS or equivalent in a related area.
- Evidence of training in dispensing procedures

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, well-motivated qualified Pharmacy Technician (or a Pre-registration Pharmacy Technician due to qualify soon) to join our friendly, progressive, Pharmacy Team.
Duties include dispensing for in-patients including clinical trials and controlled drugs in the dispensary and delivering a high-quality ward-based medicines management service to a multitude of areas throughout the Trust. You will also gain experience from working in our busy Technical Services department preparing chemotherapy, intravenous and TPN preparations.
The successful candidate will be based mainly at Pinderfields Hospital, the largest of our three hospital sites, but will also be required to work across the Trust at Pontefract Hospital and Dewsbury and District Hospital.
Main duties of the job
- Dispense and issue medicines to patients, using actual or faxed prescriptions, ensuring that all the necessary information is available.
- Ensure that all information needed for accurate stock control and prescription issues data is recorded using both paper systems and the computerised Pharmacy Information System (PIS).
