Role summary
This role is for a motivated and dynamic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Chronic Pain Management Service on a fixed-term basis. The successful candidate will provide expert advice, information, and support to patients, delivering individual and group interventions. They will work autonomously and as part of a team, demonstrating leadership and innovation, and will deputise for the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist. The role involves operational management of the Chronic Pain Unit, professional development of the nursing team, and participation in service development, audit, and research.
Key responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care and management of patients with Chronic Pain.
- Provide management and organisation of the chronic pain unit.
- Participate in the education, development and line management of other staff members.
- Develop skills to facilitate clinical responsibility for this specific group of patients.
- Deputise for the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the management and organisation of the department.
- Participate in patient programmes including self-management and pain management programmes.
Essential criteria
- Significant demonstrable post registration experience in Pain management
- Ability to prioritise workload, instruct and direct others
- Ability to analyse and evaluate information
- Registered Nurse
- Mentorship certificate or recognised teaching qualification
- Post registration experience working at band 6 or senior band 5

Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Chronic Pain Management Service on a fixed term basis.
A Clinical Nurse Specialist in Chronic Pain provides expert advice, information and support for patients, delivering a combination of both individual and group based interventions. We require someone who can work both autonomously and as part of a team, and demonstrates leadership, innovation and be self-motivated. The successful applicant will need to be flexible regarding hours.
The successful applicant will be expected to deputise for the Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist, to participate in the operational management of the Chronic Pain Unit at BGH and assist in the Professional management and development of the Chronic Pain Nursing team. They will be involved in service development, audit and research and service evaluation. They must be able to demonstrate evidence of recent learning and examples of continued professional and clinical development.
