Role summary
This role is for a Band 5 Respiratory Healthcare Science Practitioner within the Pulmonary Function department at Manchester Royal Infirmary. It is suitable for a trainee who has completed the Practitioner Training Programme or ARTP Practitioner certificate. The post involves performing routine respiratory diagnostic measurements and contributing to the smooth running of services. The successful candidate will practice as an independent practitioner after an orientation period.
Essential criteria
- BSc/MSc in Respiratory Healthcare Science or equivalent
- Registered or working towards registration with RCCP
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship/education training
- Registration with HCPC
- Registered with a relevant professional organisation (ARTP)
- Experience and proven competence in routine measurements in respiratory physiology
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Experience of working with numbers
- Minimum of three years' experience at trainee leve
- Ability to perform appropriate respiratory physiological diagnostic procedures without direct supervision
- Able to use own initiative
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisation and time management skills
- Ability to motivate patients to perform tests to required standards
- Ability to motivate staff

Job summary
The Pulmonary Function department is looking for a committed individual to join a friendly and high-performing team, as a Band 5 Respiratory Healthcare Science Practitioner.
This is a fantastic opportunity ideal for a trainee who has just completed the Practitioner Training Programme or ARTP Practitioner certificate. In this role you will be expected to be performing routine respiratory diagnostic measurements. The role will be centred at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job
Depending on skills and experience on appointment you will complete a period of orientation and/or additional training. Once complete you will practice as an independent practitioner and will be responsible for:
The diagnostic tests and treatments carried out within the department and wards.
Contributing to the smooth day to day running of services reporting to the managerial lead on a regular basis.
Performing unsupervised, all routine techniques within the lung function laboratory. To include spirometry, lung volumes, gas transfer (TLco), plethysmography and reversibility testing.
Ensuring data quality by undertaking equipment calibration and quality control for all tests performed within the laboratory.
