Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and energetic full-time Band 6 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Therapy Team. The post holder will deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy Service for service users on a designated ward, working closely with the Clinical Lead OT and other therapy staff. Responsibilities include providing person-centred assessments and interventions, promoting recovery, and maximising daily living skills. The role also involves assessing needs for service users with complex mental and physical health issues, including falls risk minimisation and equipment provision. The post holder will supervise junior staff and student practitioners.
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy or Sports science
- HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
- Completed specialist training such as KUF, care certificate or similar
- Clinical Skills
- Experience of working in mental health
- Experience of using IT and digital tool
- Demonstrating ability to work flexibly
- Experience of undertaking specialist clinical assessment in the acute mental health field
- Experience of running groups and individual session
- Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and support junior staff in effective time management
- Communication
- Demonstrates ability to communicate in written form
- Experience of MDT working
- Bilingual

Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic full time Band 6 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Therapy Team based at Highgate West Mental Health Centre.
The post holder will be required to deliver a comprehensive Occupational Therapy Service for service users primarily on one designated ward. They will also work closely with Clinical Lead OT, OT Assistant, Activity workers and Art Psychotherapist to provide specialist Occupational Therapy Service to both male and female service users on the 2 PICU wards at Highgate and additionally contribute as required to the Central Therapy Group Programme.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the multidisciplinary team the post-holder will be required to meet the identified occupational and functional needs of service users on their caseload. This includes providing a variety of person-centred assessments and interventions, promoting a recovery approach and social inclusion, to maximise activity of daily living skills and lifestyle management.
