Role summary
This role involves leading the design, development, and delivery of clinical skills and simulation teaching for undergraduate medical students and resident doctors in training. The manager will support the University of Buckingham's medical education program, ensuring students achieve GMC Practical Procedures competencies. Key responsibilities include managing a training system for resident doctors and overseeing the maintenance and stock control of clinical skills training equipment. The postholder will also contribute to service development and quality improvement within the medical education department.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse or Midwife
- Educated to degree level
- Working knowledge of undergraduate medical curriculum and RDIT teaching and curricula programmes in NHS
- Knowledge of evidence informed and research-based practice
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification in medical education or simulation based practice or equivalent experience to master's level
- Experience working in Acute NHS setting
- Evidence of competence to deliver clinical skills training
- Teaching Experience
- Significant post qualification experience
- Experience of leading a team and managing direct reports
- Experience in design and implementation of teaching programmes
- Experience of Simulation training and delivery including debriefing skills Clinical Competence and credibility
- Able to deliver high-quality training for staff of all levels, enabling the delivery of patient centred care
- Ability to plan and organise a range of complex activities and programmes
- Effective negotiation skills
- Good and Effective presentation skills
- Excellent teaching skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team
- Ability to cope with tight deadlines and competing priorities
- Well-developed customer focused skills
- Flexible and pragmatic approach to problems and working practices
- Computer literate
- Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
- Able to both perform and teach a wide range of clinical skills e.g. cannulation, naso gastric tube insertion, catheterisation
- Able to trouble-shoot equipment to solve issues i.e. manikins, IT software
- Able to use software for word processing, presentations, networking, timetabling and creation of spreadsheets and online rostering
