Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to join the Surgical Team as a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward 12C, an elective general surgical unit. The role involves caring for patients undergoing Urology, general surgery, plastics, and gynae surgery. You will extend your skills, become involved in leadership decisions, and be supported by the ward manager and senior leadership team to develop your leadership capabilities.
Essential criteria
- NMC registration RN (adult)
- Band 6 experience previously
Desirable criteria
- Coaching/ Mentorship
- Experience in Surgery
- Elective surgery covering colorectal, Urology, Breast,
- Experience at a band 5 level within a related field
- management/ Leadership course
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate on the telephone and face to face with patients, and colleagues, and be able to respond to those who may experience communication difficulties through language or understanding
- Demonstrate good organisational skills
- Physical ability and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area required by this post
- Able to complete delegated tasks set, follow and deliver instructions
- Able to work within a team setting
- Awareness of health and safety issues and policies

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced registered nurse to join the Surgical Team as a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse on Ward 12C - elective general Surgery.
12C is a 22 bedded elective surgical unit caring for Urology, general surgery, plastics and gynae surgery.
This is an ideal opportunity for nurses already working within surgery to increase and extend their skills, whilst beginning to become involved in leadership decisions with support of your ward manager and senior leadership team.
There are many opportunities to develop your leadership skills and you will be supported along your journey by all of the senior leadership team within the surgical floor.
Main duties of the job
- Act as a credible visible role model for all junior nursing and alliedhealthcare professional staff.
- To actively participate with the discussions with the MDT, raising and discussing concerns and actively seeking acceptable and best outcomes solutions for the patients. Ensuring that patients and relatives views are heard and considered.
- To support the department team in resolving clinical and operational issues on a shift by shift basis whilst ensuring that best practise nursing care is delivered.
