Role summary
This role involves supporting registered staff in the perioperative care of patients within an operating department. The post holder will apply knowledge of surgical procedures to facilitate high-quality patient care, acting under direction of registered practitioners. They will participate in all aspects of perioperative care, delivering direct patient care sensitively and respectfully. The role is based at St Austell Surgical Hub, working as part of a multidisciplinary theatre team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support to registered staff with the perioperative care of all patients.
- Possess knowledge of surgical procedures and be able to provide support to facilitate the delivery of high quality patient care.
- Act under the direction of registered practitioners, using available information regarding resource to support the delivery of perioperative care.
- Participate in all aspects of perioperative care delivering direct patient care in a manner sensitive to the individual patient's needs and wishes, acknowledging and respecting their rights and beliefs at all times.
- Work with multi-disciplinary colleagues as a member of the core theatre team.
Essential criteria
- GCSE in English and Maths grade 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent
- NVQ 2 in operating department practice or equivalent experience
- Previous experience in healthcare in an acute environment
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well within a team
- Awareness of Health & Safety issues relevant to the healthcare environment
- Ability to work under the direction of registered staff within the role boundaries
- Ability to cope with distressing situations remaining calm
- Ability to prioritise and communicate under pressure

- Previous theatre experience
