Role summary

This is a full-time trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner role within Inclusion Drug and Alcohol Services. The 12-month training involves study at the University of Sussex and clinical work in a drug and alcohol service. Upon successful completion, the role will become a permanent Band 5 position. The successful candidate will work across North Hampshire sites, including Aldershot, Basingstoke, and Andover.

Key responsibilities

  • Work within a drug and alcohol service when not completing the programme of study.
  • Complete all aspects of the taught programme of study and progress successfully through all aspects of appraisal.
  • Develop and practice psychologically-informed interventions under supervision with adults in the service and communities.
  • Support collaborative care and treatment packages alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Develop caring, supportive, and empathic relationships with people using our services who may be in significant distress.
  • Guide service users towards partner services which may benefit them or their families/carers.

Essential criteria

  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Ability to work autonomously and maintain accurate, timely case records.
  • Reliable, resilient and able to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Ability to work flexibly and deal with conflicting demands, keeping the people who use our service at the centre
  • Strong communication skills which demonstrate empathy, reassurance and a trauma informed approach

Inclusion Drug and Alcohol Services are delighted to be supporting a new full-time trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner role, with the required training course planned to start on 5th January 2027.

Over the 12-month training period individuals will attend study at University of Sussex (in person and remote learning) as well as spending time working clinically in a Drug and Alcohol service. These are exciting roles created by NHSEWTE to support the transformation of community mental health and drug and alcohol services. Your training will be fully funded, and you will be eligible for a full-time qualified permanent position on completion of the training course. In return, we ask that you commit to staying with us for at least two years after you qualify.

The successful candidate will be required to work across our sites in the North of Hampshire (including Aldershot, Basingstoke and Andover)
