Role summary
This is for a highly motivated Band 6 Respiratory Nurse Specialist to join a team delivering high-quality care. The role involves working as an autonomous practitioner within a defined clinical area, partnering with a multidisciplinary team. There are two full-time posts available, one focusing on general respiratory and non-invasive ventilation at West Cumberland Hospital, and another on pleural disease and pulmonary nodule work at Cumberland Infirmary. The specialist will use independent judgment to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical care for respiratory patients.
Key responsibilities
- Work independently at a specialist clinical level in the direct delivery of high quality care, making clinical treatment decisions based on advanced assessment.
- Provide clinical leadership and support regarding respiratory care to the nursing teams across the Trust.
- Support Consultants with day to day clinical activity (to be determined according to need of specialist area).
- Provide in-patient areas with consistent high quality care and support of respiratory issues.
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- Evidence of continued professional development
- 1st Level Degree
- Experience of caring for patients with respiratory illness.

The post holder will be highly motivated individual who has excellent care values, and a strong sense of team spirit to join our team to deliver high quality care.
The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will work as an autonomous practitioner within a defined clinical area, in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
There will one post based at the West Cumberland Hospital and post holder will focus on general respiratory including non-invasive ventilation.
There will also be a post based at CIC where post holder will focus on pleural disease and pulmonary nodule work.
There will also be an expectation to be able to work across site to meet the needs of the service etc.
The Respiratory Nurse Specialist will be required to work within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines and hold advanced physical assessment skills.
The successful post holder will be required to use their independent judgment to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of respiratory patients within a defined clinical area.
