Role summary
This role involves working as a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) within a multidisciplinary team based in schools. The primary focus is on supporting the early identification of mental health issues and promoting wellbeing for staff and young people. You will deliver evidence-based, early interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems, working collaboratively with various professionals. The position also includes supporting education staff in identifying mental health needs and embedding a positive mental health ethos.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in educational settings.
- Work in partnership with children, young people, parents/carers, and educators to support self-management of presenting difficulties.
- Undertake and record accurate assessments of risk and operate clear risk management processes.
- Manage your own caseload in conjunction with team requirements and attend multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Keep clear, professionally coherent records of all activity and complete data collection requirements.
- Support schools in adopting a Whole School Approach to mental health and wellbeing.
Essential criteria
- Relevant EMHP Post Graduate Diploma qualification Following the completion of a CYP IAPT approved training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (C&Y IAPT)
- Registration with relevant professional body
- A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development and commitment to ongoing learning.
- Proven post qualification experience of working in and with schools
- Experience of Multi agency work
- Skills and experience of working with children, young people and families around a range of emotional/mental health, behavioural and additional health or developmental needs.
- Experience of teaching groups of professionals and parents
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and documents pertaining to children (e.g. Children's Act, Mental Health Act, NSF, Every Child Matters, Future In Mind)
- Knowledge and experience of provision of evidence based emotional/mental health assessment Knowledge and experience of the provision of different models of therapy and interventions
- Ability to manage a defined caseload as required and participate in case management supervision.
- Organise own work schedule
- Ability to maintain accurate case records in line with Trust policies and procedure
- Ability to be an autonomous practitioner whilst being able to work as an integral part of a multi agency locality team
- Be committed to anti discriminatory/ anti oppressive practice and equal opportunity
- Ability to identify training needs and prepare and deliver training packages for parents and teaching staff.
- Ability to offer individual and group therapeutic interventions.
Desirable criteria
- Educated to Degree Level
- Qualification in therapeutic approaches with children and families eg CBT systemic, solution focused, play therapy

- Community experience, working in schools and with families
- Ability to use electronic data recording systems
