Role summary

This role is for an experienced Estates Officer to support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality estates services across the Trust. You will oversee contractor performance, support maintenance and capital projects, and monitor estates compliance. The position involves ensuring the Trust meets its statutory, regulatory, and health and safety obligations. It's an opportunity to contribute to estates improvement initiatives and sustainability objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the management and delivery of the Trust's Estates services.
  • Oversee contractor performance and ensure works meet required standards.
  • Act as a Responsible Person, Deputy Responsible Person or Informed Client for designated estates compliance areas.
  • Support the development and implementation of estates initiatives, maintenance programmes, and capital projects.
  • Maintain estates information systems, analyse performance data, and coordinate compliance reporting.
  • Support the Trust's sustainability and energy management objectives and manage procurement of estates-related goods and services.

Essential criteria

  • Must have a full UK driving licence and their own car
  • Evidence of a good general education / Educated to degree level or HNC/HND plus additional education to degree level in a relevant estates qualification, or able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge
  • Competent to act as Responsible Person in one or more Estates Maintenance areas
  • Significant relevant experience of building or engineering services siteworks or maintenance
  • Experience of documentation and protocols necessary in delivering either: Projects of complex nature and/or: Contract management of complex contracts
  • Knowledge of Estates health & safety, technical compliance, and risk management
  • Knowledge of procurement methods including purchase orders and construction contracts
  • Specialist professional knowledge of several estates-related disciplines and functions, with the skills to transfer knowledge to new or less familiar areas of work.
  • Experience in a supervisory role in an Estates or surveying role within a complex organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills for development of positive working relationships with personnel outside the direct control of the individual - staff, service users and carers.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, at one-to-one level and meetings

Desirable criteria

  • Incorporated Membership of relevant professional body such as CIBSE, RICS, CIOB, or IHEEM
  • Evidence of relevant continued professional development, gained through either specialist course(s), or specific development experience.
  • Understanding of priorities for health care provision
  • Familiar with: UK H&S legislation, Health Building Notes and Health Technical Memoranda, Construction and Maintenance contracts oEstates policies oSupervision of Estates maintenance activities or contracts, and/or Estates project works or contracts
  • Experience of working with operational teams to deliver service modernisation improvements
  • Experience in working in mental health service user environments
  • Experience of managing others, both under direct line management and also those not under direct line management.
  • CAD skills for building plans. Use of estate databases
  • Training skills - sharing knowledge, good negotiating skills
  • Good facilitation skills

Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Estates Officer to support the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality estates services across the Trust.
