Role summary
This is a permanent, part-time opportunity for an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join the AMHP service in Gloucestershire. The role offers a flexible, annualised hours contract, allowing for adaptable working patterns. Based in Gloucester, the Specialist Practitioner will cover all aspects of AMHP work across the county, including supporting other AMHPs and developing practice. The service operates 24/7, requiring coverage of various shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Triage and undertake Mental Health Act (MHA) work through a single point of access over a 24/7 service.
- Maintain mandatory requirements for AMHP approval and undertake ongoing training.
- Promote the role of the AMHP and the rights of service users and carers.
- Work a mixture of weekend, night-time, and daytime shifts.
- Act as, or be willing to train as, a Practice Mentor Assessor to trainee AMHPs.
- Deliver supervision, advice, and guidance to other practitioners.
Essential criteria
- Ability to motivate and support staff within a framework of change, demonstrating a commitment to high professional standards and effective partnership working. (2)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, personal motivation, and ability to work under pressure. With the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to apply these in complex mental health situations
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook
- Full UK driving licence and access to own transport
- Registered Professional in one of the following: Social work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy or Clinical Psychology with NMC or HCPC
- Currently authorised AMHP or successfully completed training within the past 9 months
- Significant, proven post-qualification experience relevant to mental health practice
- Experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental illness, including complex presentations
- Experience of working effectively within multidisciplinary and partnership settings
- Experience of providing professional supervision, social care supervision, practice teaching or equivalent support to colleagues
Desirable criteria
- Willingness to work night-time and weekend shifts on an equitable basis with AMHP Hub team members to support delivery of a 24/7 AMHP service
- Management qualification
- Knowledge of care management
- Experience of line management

Job summary
We have an exiting opportunity for an Approved Mental Health Professional to join the AMHP service in Gloucestershire.
This is a unique opportunity for qualified AMHPs who want to maintain practice without committing a contract under standard terms. This flexible contract offers a permanent part time position on an annualised hours basis, giving flexibility to those who may not usually consider a permanent contract, possibly because they don't want to commit to a set number of hours week on week. The service will work with you to enable your working patterns suit your personal commitments with a minimum number of committed hours on an annual basis.
Working as a part time AMHP in the hub based in Gloucester, you will be required to cover all aspects of AMHP work across Gloucestershire. As a Specialist Practitioner you will take an active role in supporting other AMHP's and the development of AMHP practice within the authority area.
You will be employed by Gloucestershire Health and Care Foundation Trust and therefore subject to Agenda for Change terms and conditions. You will be approved to act as AMHP by Gloucestershire Local Authority.
