Role summary

This role involves working as a Clinical Support Worker within the Sexual Health and HIV Service, providing support to medical and nursing staff. Key duties include clinical chaperoning, phlebotomy, microscopy (once trained), and maintaining clinical environments. The post requires working across different sites within the Trust and contributing to a high standard of patient care.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide support to Medical and Nursing Staff within Sexual Health and HIV Service.
  • Perform clinical chaperoning, phlebotomy, and microscopy (when trained).
  • Set up and close down clinical areas, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
  • Prepare examination rooms and clinical environments according to infection control policies.
  • Assist with examinations, record routine observations, and help patients with mobility and dressing.

Essential criteria

  • English and Mathematics GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) or equivalent. This includes Key Skills Level 1 in Communication and Application of Number or Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Mathematics
  • Competence based level 3 Qualification e.g. NVQ or Diploma in Healthcare Support or equivalent experience and able to evidence the completion of the Care Certificate and core competencies associated with the Clinical Support Worker role.
  • Willingness to undertake any training or development relevant to the role and specific area
  • Moving and Handling knowledge and experience
  • Infection Control knowledge and experience
  • KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
  • Previous employment with a healthcare setting (18 months)
  • Insight into the roles of responsibilities of the post
  • Demonstrate commitment to a caring profession and delivery of person-centred care
  • Understand the importance of record keeping
  • Literacy Skills
  • IT skills
  • Experience of record keeping
  • COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES)
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Ability to work in a busy environment
  • Able to use own initiative
  • Aware of own limitations/ level of competence
  • Good communication Skills
