Role summary
This role involves delivering safe, effective, and compassionate perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The post-holder will act as a trained Scrub Nurse, contributing to a safe clinical environment and undertaking a broad range of scrub-related duties to support the surgical team. It requires a commitment to high professional standards, continuous learning, and evidence-based practice to ensure patient safety and high-quality care throughout the perioperative journey. The nurse will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care from admission to discharge.
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate clearly, professionally, and compassionately with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
- Able to follow instructions and escalate concerns appropriately
- Demonstrates effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria
- Experience communicating with patients in a perioperative or acute clinical setting
- Knowledge, Training & Experience
- NMC Registered Nurse (Adult)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and understanding of perioperative safety principles.
- Previous experience in theatres, surgical environments, or orthopaedics
- Additional perioperative-related training (e.g. scrub skills course)
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a healthcare environment
- Analytical & Judgment Skills
- Able to recognise changes in patient condition and escalate promptly.
- Able to follow clinical guidelines and safety procedures
- Demonstrates sound decision-making
- Experience contributing to problem-solving or service improvement
- Communication & Relationship Skills
