Role summary
This role is for an experienced paediatric Speech Language Therapist specializing in acute communication needs and dysphagia, including videofluoroscopy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team within Evelina London Children's Hospital, part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Responsibilities include assessing and managing complex feeding, swallowing, and communication issues in infants and children across various acute settings and outpatient clinics. The position offers support for professional development and integration into a large, diverse, and supportive team.
Essential criteria
- Highly specialist assessment and management of paediatric feeding/swallowing and acute onset communication difficulties, seeking advice where appropriate (including use of videofluoroscopy swallow study)
- Use knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements and decision-making for complex cases
- Apply an evidenced based practice approach to clinical cases
- Ability to reflect on own practice and identify strengths and development needs
- Relevant assessment and therapeutic interventions and an ability to compare relative benefits underpinned by evidence based practice i.e. dysphagia and acute onset communication impairment including videofluoroscopy
- Previous Experience
- Management of dysphagia across the paediatric age range
- Management of communication disorders arising from a wide range of aetiologies e.g. neurological disease
- Participation in videofluoroscopy swallow study in dysphagia management
- Caseload management and prioritisation in a tertiary acute setting
- Management of feeding and dysphagia in infants/ neonates
- Qualifications/ Education
- Evidence of Masters or equivalent level of specialist training
- Intermediate dysphagia course or equivalent
- Health Care Professions Council- license to practice

Job summary
We are looking for an experienced paediatric Speech Language Therapist with an interest in acute communication needs and dysphagia, including videofluoroscopy.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, innovative,diverse and friendly team. We promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, everyone is welcomed.The Acute Speech and Language Therapy servicesupports patients across the age range, on the wards and in specialist tertiary outpatient clinics. Our aim is to assess and manage the dysphagia andcommunication needs of the patients we work with. This role requires knowledge and skills in paediatric dysphagia/ feeding, complex communication disorders and alternative and augmentative communication. When in post you will be supported to develop your knowledge and skills using competency frameworks e.g. infant feeding, videofluoroscopy and tracheostomy.You will be required to work with acute inpatients and in tertiary outpatient clinics across both hospital sites.
Evelina London Children's Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital Acute Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy Services are now integrated. We are one service across two sites, with most services based at Evelina London Children's Hospital. Both hospitals sit within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust.
