Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Children's nurse to join an established team in Birmingham, providing personalised specialist nursing support to children and families with complex physical health needs. The service operates seven days a week and 24 hours a day, delivering bespoke commissioned packages of care in homes, schools, and community locations. The role involves delivering high-quality nursing care, providing training and supervision to team members and families, and developing rewarding therapeutic relationships with children and families in a community setting. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in service developments and will receive formal clinical supervision and a supported induction period.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high quality nursing care according to agreed standards.
- Provide training and supervision to other members of the team, including health care assistants.
- Provide training and supervision to parents and family members ensuring their competence in meeting care needs.
- Develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.
- Participate in service developments.
Essential criteria
- Registered Children's, Adult or Learning Disabilities Nurse with an active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Degree plus significant experience
- Ability to manage team on a day to day basis in the absence of the Clinical / Team Leader
- Evidence of assessment skills and use of nursing process and nurse models
- Self-motivated.
- Positive, energetic, enthusiastic in outlook and able to set a good example
- Evidence of strong leadership skills, the ability to negotiate, persuade and influence at a senior level with a supportive style whilst also able to take difficult decisions and act assertively
- As per person spec
- Significant experience of working as a Children's Nurse either RSCN/RN Child
- Evidence of excellent clinical and professional engagement.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) within general management activities
Desirable criteria
- ENB 998 (Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice) or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) within general management activities
- Ability to lead complex services, setting clear direction and delivering service objectives.
- Keen to develop services in line with service, educational and research priorities with the service.
- Significant experience and successful in-depth knowledge of staff management and the procedures and policies underpinning this.
