Role summary
This role involves maintaining high standards of evidence-based patient care under the direction of a team leader. The practitioner will work within departmental and Trust standards, adhering to regulatory body guidelines. They will function as a competent member of the multidisciplinary theatre team, continuously extending their knowledge and skills. The position requires providing care to patients in both Main Theatre and Day Surgery settings.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a high standard of evidence based patient care under the direction of the team leader.
- Work within the standards set by the department, the Trust and the appropriate Regulatory Body.
- Work as a competent member of the multidisciplinary theatre team, taking every opportunity to extend knowledge and skills.
- Provide care to patients in Main Theatre and Day Surgery setting.
- Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC/HCPC code of conduct and within limits of competence.
- Undertake a full range of theatre duties in the anaesthetic / surgical / recovery role with appropriate training and supervision.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Nurse on part 1 or 12 of the NMC Register or HCPC Professional Registrant
- ODA CG 752 / ODP NVQ Level 3 / DipHE ODP
- Interest and commitment to philosophy of the Theatre suite
- Understands and practices the principles of confidentiality
- Organisational skills
- Supervisory skills
- Decision making & planning
- IT skills
- Good communication skills
- Flexible approach to working hours/duties
- Self-motivated and able to act on own initiative
- Demonstrate an understanding of Trust & Departmental objectives.
- Act as role model
- Understand the concept of team work
- Occupational health clearance to carry out role
Desirable criteria
- ENB 998 or C&G 730
- A1 Assessors award
- ENB 176 /183/182 or equivalent
- Preparation for Mentorship
- Specific Theatre qualification or equivalent ability
- Post-qualification experience in a peri-operative environment
- Experience of staff supervision and training
- Enhanced practice skills commensurate to area
- Evidence of professional development in last 12 months
- Evidence of analytical thinking and problem solving.
