Role summary
This role is for a Theatre Healthcare Assistant at Liverpool Women's Hospital, focusing on delivering safe, high-quality patient care within the Theatre department. You will work under the supervision of qualified staff, assisting with peri-operative patient care, ensuring cleanliness, and preparing the operating theatre and equipment. The position requires working various shifts including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and on-call.
Key responsibilities
- Perform as a safe, competent clinical member of the theatre team and provide care for the peri-operative patient under the supervision of qualified staff.
- Ensure the cleanliness of all Operating Theatre areas and equipment and participate in cleaning programmes.
- Prepare the Operating Theatre prior to and following operative procedures, ensuring correct equipment is available and in working order.
- Assist the Scrubbed Practitioner in the preparation and replenishment of sterile trolleys using an aseptic technique.
- Participate in swab, needle, and instrument counts under the direction of the Scrubbed Practitioner and in accordance with departmental procedure.
- Participate and comply with all aspects of any Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures (LocSSIPs) process and associated documentation completion.
Essential criteria
- Ability to partake in flexible working shifts patterns including nights, twilight's and on call
- Understands the job requires frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions/ body fluids/noxious fumes/ COSHH regulated substances
- Good general standard education
- Has experience of working with the public.
- Can demonstrate an understanding of what is required within the role of Theatre Health Care Assistant
- Can describe the Trust Values and demonstrate how they put these in to practice within their caring role
- Ability to develop and maintain communication both verbal and written
- Can demonstrate the ability to understand and follow a work related instruction

Desirable criteria
- NVQ 2/3 in care/care related subject

Therefore an exciting opportunity has arisen for Theatre Healthcare Assistants to take on roles at Liverpool Women's Hospital.
We are looking for forward thinking and highly motivated staff, who are able to demonstrate good time management skills, you will also need to possess good communication skills (verbal, written & electronic) and have the ability to work as part of a team.
The successful applicants will give direct care to patients attending the operating department, in a safe and welcoming environment under the supervision of professionally qualified staff.
This role does require you to work days, nights, evenings, weekends & on-call.
This role will start at a Band 2 and will then progress to a Band 3 once all mandatory training and competencies have been completed.
