Role summary

This role involves managing disorders of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, including patient assessment, education, and counselling. The post holder will work collaboratively with the endoscopy team and MDT to deliver an efficient pre-assessment service. They will contribute to the development of the service, supported by senior nurses and an administrative team. The role requires active participation in both GA and Non-GA pre-assessment services.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake telephone/face to face assessment, education, counselling of patients and maintaining an advice line.
  • Work closely with the whole endoscopy team and the MDT collaboratively.
  • Assist in the direct delivery and management of the Pre-assessment services.
  • Co-ordinate and provide care from the point of access for individuals referred from 2 week wait /Endoscopy services.
  • Act as the patient advocate, supporting informed choices at all stages of the Pre-Assessment processes.
  • Support the senior nurses in the development of the service and contribute to clinical governance and quality assurance.

Essential criteria

  • 1.Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Significant post registration experience general patient assessment
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Experience in working in cancer or related service
  • Able to cope with the demands of the service and a team player
  • Excellent organisational, communication & time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information and address barriers to understanding
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills and ability to maintain accurate records, type/produce communication letters/e-mails
  • Previous General Anaesthetic Pre-Assessment Experience
  • Demonstrate commitment to Trust HEART values - Honesty, Equity, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork.

Job summary

The Post holder will be expected to exhibit specific skills in the management of disorders of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. This will include undertaking telephone/face to face assessment, education, counselling of patients and maintaining an advice line

The post holder will work closely with the whole endoscopy team and the MDT collaboratively.

The post holder will be responsible for assessing in the delivery of an efficient and effective service for the trust.

They will assist with the development of the pre-assessment service.

The pre-assessment nurse will actively contribute to the pre-assessment service; this includes the Non-GA service.

This person will supported by the senior pre-assessment sisters/charge nurse.

There is a team of band 7 nurses, band 6 nurses and administrative team running the pre-assessment service. This ensures that there is appropriate cover, delegation and support both clinically and managerially in times of absence and leave.

Main duties of the job

Working collaboratively with the immediate and extended Endoscopy on several sites

Assisting in the direct delivery and management of the Pre-assessment services.

Co-ordinating and providing care from the point of access to address
