Role summary
This role is for an experienced Assistant Psychologist to join the Child Psychology Team at Bradford Hospital's Clinical Health Psychology service and Airedale Child Development Centre. The post holder will conduct specialist assessments for autism spectrum conditions (ASC) in children aged 0-7 years and provide therapeutic support to children with long-term physical health conditions. Responsibilities include supporting ASC assessment processes, delivering observations, undertaking various assessments under supervision, and providing follow-up support. The role also involves delivering psychological support, assisting with individual and group interventions, and contributing to service evaluations.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of multidisciplinary teams in Bradford Clinical Health Psychology and CDC services.
- Assist in specialist assessments for autism spectrum conditions (ASC) in children aged 0-7y.
- Provide specialist therapeutic input to children and young people with long term physical health conditions.
- Offer support to children and parents/carers during ASC assessment processes, including observations in education and home settings.
- Undertake a variety of assessments under clinical oversight from a qualified Clinical Psychologist.
- Support individual and group interventions and service evaluations for children with long term health conditions.
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist
- Previous experience of working in the NHS, directly with people who present with behavioural, cognitive and emotional difficulties.
- Experience of working with children and young people, including those with ASC.
- Experience of using psychometric measures
- Experience of working in an MDT
- High level communication skills (written and verbal), including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be hostile, antagonistic or highly emotive.
- Knowledge of ASC and familiarity with tools for its assessment. To be ADOS trained.
- Experience in using databases and performing data analysis.
- Previous research and audit experience.
- Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
- Understanding of the principles of psychological and psychometric assessment
- An understanding of the psychological needs and difficulties of children and young people presenting with neurodevelopmental difference
- Honours Degree in Psychology to at least 2i standard, or 2ii with relevant Masters degree.
- Eligible for HCPC Registration and/or Graduate membership of the BPS.
- Ability to work professionally and ethically
- Ability to work independently whilst recognising own limits
- Ability to reflect on own practice and respond positively to clinical and professional supervision
- Ability to interact effectively with people with psychological, behaviour and cognitive problems
- Ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines
- Willingness to undertake professional training and development
- Able to demonstrate a clear interest in the advertised post and relate previous experience to the post
- Must have an independent means of motorised transport with access to a vehicle for work (or acceptable alternative).
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children with complex health needs and/or disability, and their families
- Familiarity with other neuropsychological tests.
- Experience in writing high quality reports.
- Language skills in common with South Asian or Eastern European languages.
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of psychology and/or research design and analysis
