Role summary
This is an exciting part-time role for a Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist within the Specialist Community Forensic Team in Oxfordshire. The postholder will work with forensic service users to reduce admission lengths and support their transition into the community. Responsibilities include developing psychological and risk formulations, providing consultations, delivering training, and offering direct therapeutic interventions. The role involves significant multiagency and multidisciplinary working, focusing on trauma-informed care and service development.
Key responsibilities
- Support the MDT with developing psychological formulations and risk formulations.
- Contribute to needs assessments and provide consultations to other professionals/agencies/services.
- Design and deliver training, offer supervision, and engage in joint working.
- Provide direct therapeutic interventions with service users.
- Identify service users who might benefit from further psychological work and conduct comprehensive assessments.
- Play an integral part in ensuring trauma-informed care is at the heart of the SCFT's work.
Essential criteria
- Well developed theoretical and practical knowledge of the field of clinical, counselling or forensic psychology, consistent with doctoral level professional training.
- Satisfactory completion of a British Psychological Society accredited Doctoral Level postgraduate professional training course in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic psychology.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to empathically, sensitively and effectively communicate clinical and condition related information to clients, their families, carers and professional colleagues (within and outside the NHS) that is extremely complicated or technical; extremely sensitive and potentially distressing to the recipient; or that is extremely contentious or challenging.
- Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific 'difficult to treat' groups (e.g. personality disorder, challenging behaviour, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc).
- Post qualification training in specialist area of clinical work, relevant to a forensic population.
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
