Role summary

This role involves undertaking varied technical maintenance work, including reactive and planned preventative maintenance, on the Trust's mechanical and electrical engineering systems. The post holder will diagnose and repair complex faults, ensure optimal performance and safety of the Estate, and support critical services. They will also provide out-of-hours call-out cover and instruct others on technical aspects of their work.

Key responsibilities

  • Undertake wide and varied technical maintenance work, including reactive and planned preventative maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on a wide range of complex equipment, services, and systems.
  • Maintain emergency/contingency systems to support critical services and minimise disruption.
  • Test new or existing equipment and engineering systems to verify safety and operation.
  • Provide out of hours call out cover on a rota basis.
  • Use permit to works, risk assessments, orders, and job documentation accurately and timely.

Essential criteria

  • Have completed and passed a recognised engineering Apprenticeship.
  • Can evidence continuing professional development.
  • Achieve NVQ Level 3 within either a mechanical or electrical field.
  • Completed latest BS 7671 Update
  • Demonstrable good keyboard skills
  • Deep understanding of how physical and moving parts work, enabling you to dismantle, repair, and reassemble complex machinery
  • Competency in reading wiring diagrams, fault-finding on electrical circuits, motor control, and safe low- or high-voltage handling.
  • The ability to conduct routine inspections and detect early wear-and-tear to prevent unexpected equipment failures.
  • To be able to work in varied working environments across an acute hospital setting
  • In-depth experience of work in same or similar environment
  • Able to carry out technical work and complex maintenance whilst undertaking analysis and diagnosis of faults in complex, multi-faceted equipment without supervision
  • Have an understanding of current Health & Safety legislation
  • Experience of problem solving in a complex and aging estate

Desirable criteria

  • Hold a HNC in a relevant engineering qualification plus relevant experience to graduate, professional level or equivalent training and experience.
  • Have completed a relevant Authorised Persons specific course and be validated by an Authorising Engineer as competent to work on the Trust site.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HTM standards

Job summary

As a Trust we are investing in the Estates Engineering infrastructure primarily in our mechanical & electrical engineering systems to provide the foundation for the Trust to achieve significant carbon reductions through the introduction of new renewable technologies.

The post holder will be employed to undertake wide and varied technical maintenance work which will be routine and varied in nature, which will include reactive work and planned preventative maintenance.

To ensure the optimum level of performance, safety and availability of the Trust's Estate and associated infrastructure and building services.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will problem solve complex technical issues whilst undertaking breakdown repairs, planned maintenance and upgrade work and a diverse range of complex building services to a technical level across both mechanical and electrical services.

Instruct others on the above features and other aspects of their work.

Perform a wide range of work to include other maintenance disciples.

Be available to work additional hours as required.

Provide out of hours call out cover on a rota basis and where necessary
