Role summary
The Department of Laboratory Haematology is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Laboratory Technical Officer to support diagnostic services. This role involves working across University Hospital Llandough, University Hospital of Wales, and Velindre Hospital, providing a 24/7 service. Initially focusing on Haematology, the role will expand to include Medical Biochemistry. The post holder will utilise automated analysers and work a rotating shift pattern.
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the Welsh LIMS
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of a hospital LIMS
- Previous experience in a hospital laboratory environment including sample preparation/handling environments
- Experience working in NHS
- Previous laboratory medicine experience
- Participation in working unsocial hours/shifts
- NVQ Level 3 or above in a science related subject
- HNC in Med Lab Sciences or an Applied Biological Science
- Special Knowledge

Job summary
The Department of Laboratory Haematology are looking appoint an enthusiastic, motivated Laboratory Technical Officer (Band 3) to support the delivery of services within our exciting University Health Board. The Haematology and Medical Biochemistry & Toxicology Laboratories provide a diagnostic service for the City of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and provides tertiary services for the larger population of South Wales and beyond. The departments are seeking to increase the team of Laboratory Technical Officers to provide a 24/7 service mainly within University Hospital Llandough with additional duties at University Hospital of Wales and Velindre Hospital.
Initially, the service will support the Haematology Laboratory with further training being provided to include Medical Biochemistry in phase two.
Previous experience in the NHS is an advantage.
