Role summary
This is a fixed-term, part-time Senior Audiologist position at the RNENT & ED Hospitals (UCLH) for maternity cover. The role involves working three days a week, ideally Tuesday to Thursday, at outreach sites like Edgware Community and Finchley Memorial Hospitals. The successful candidate will assess, fit, verify, and adjust hearing aids for a variety of complex and non-complex adult patients. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified audiologist to gain further experience in a renowned centre of excellence.
Essential criteria
- Bsc in Clinical Audiology/ Hearing Therapy or equivalent level of knowledge/ expertise in field. CAC or equivalent post graduate experience.
- Registered to practice as an Audiologist/ Clinical Scientist with either Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP).
- Significant post-graduate experience in relevant clinical area
- Evidence of post graduate CPD
- Applied theoretical knowledge of the relevant assessment and therapeutic/rehabilitative procedures for the management of audiological or vestibular conditions in adults and/or children.
- Knowledge of impact of co-morbidities such as global delay or neurological conditions in the management of adults and/or children.
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Clinical Audiology/ Hearing Therapy or equivalent
- Post graduate management/leadership training or experience as supervisor

- Demonstrable experience in the relevant clinical area and evidence of clinical competency with a complex patient caseload.
- Specialist knowledge of routine and non-routine diagnostic / therapeutic audiological assessment procedures, their interpretation and their implications for patient management
- Experience in formulating comprehensive management plans based on case history information and diagnostic test results, where management decisions may or may not be straightforward
- Experience of working with hearing impaired patients / parents / carers and associated professionals
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit, research, and / or presentations at scientific meetings.

- Ability to work in a team and to independently deliver clinical and non-clinical tasks
- Ability to work with a level of autonomy to assess, diagnose, differentially diagnose and manage patients and their families.
- Participation in research and development activities, including audit of clinical outcomes as required
- Ability to work calmly and methodically when under pressure from a busy and varied caseload, demonstrating good prioritisation and organisational skills
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
- Ability to monitor outcomes using clinical and non-clinical data

- Knowledge required for specific areas:
- Cochlear Implant: Theoretical knowledge of cochlear implants

- Evidence of teaching students and groups of staff
- Experience of working within the designated specialist area, e.g. paediatrics/CI
- Communication
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Fluent English speaker
- Ability to effectively and accurately communicate sensitive information to staff, patients and relatives
- Ability to overcome barriers to communication in patients of all ages, especially with the profoundly deaf and patients reliant on sign or language interpreters
- Able to adapt communication to meet the needs of the situation, including in stressful or conflict clinical and non-clinical situations
- Ability to effectively communicate highly technical and/or condition related information to patients and/or carers
- Managing daily communication and interaction with staff and colleagues
- Good presentation skills at all levels including facilitating patient groups
- Able to build rapport and credibility with team, senior clinical and managerial colleagues
- Ability to deal regularly and appropriately with angry and frustrated individuals.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work in the Adult Hearing Aid Department at our Outreach sites of Edgware Community and Finchley Memorial Hospitals for 3 days a week, ideally Tuesday to Thursday. The post consists predominantly of working with adults requiring assessment, fitting, verification and adjustment of hearing aids.
Main duties of the job
You will see a variety of complex and non-complex patients and will be an excellent opportunity for a qualified audiologist wanting to gain further experience in this renowned centre of excellence and gather additional knowledge in the field of rehabilitation.
The department has undergone a lot of change in the last few years and so we are looking for an individual who not only has patient care at the forefront of their mind but is also adaptable and flexible.
You will have a BSc in Audiology or BAAT parts 1&2, BTEC in MPPM & must have voluntary registration with AHCS (formally RCCP).
