Role summary
This role is for an additional Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist in ENT due to service expansion. The CNS will manage a large caseload of complex ENT children, covering inpatient work, outpatient clinics, and regional surveillance. It involves autonomous working within a multidisciplinary team, including direct line management of a Band 6 nurse. The successful candidate will need excellent communication, organisational skills, and a strong knowledge of paediatric airway management and ENT procedures.
Essential criteria
- RSCN/ RN Child
- First Degree (or equivalent level) in nursing or health-related subject
- Teaching and Assessing qualification
- Evidence of on-going CPD
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate Diploma/ Degree/Masters
- Counselling qualification
- Non-medical prescriber
- Advanced communication skills
- Working with acute and chronically ill children and young people
- Evidence of having worked collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues / students and involvement in mentorship
- Community experience
- Experience in caring for children with ENT conditions, and their families
- Evidence of publications in nursing journals
- NHS experience
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Children Act
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the National Service Framework
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Every Child Matters
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the Working together to Safeguard children
- Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of the NHS Plan
- Experience in developing care pathways and patient information
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Skills of diplomacy and negotiation
- Well-developed organisational and planning ability, able to prioritise and delegate

Job summary
Due to the expansion of the service we are pleased to be recruiting an additional Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist to the team. The paediatric ENT CNS role is a very exciting role with vast scope for the right candidate to improve their specialist clinical practice and knowledge alongside utilising their existing excellent communication and organisational skills
The role covers multiple areas across CUH and encompasses inpatient work, outpatient clinics and regional surveillance via telephone and email of complex ENT children
There is also a managerial element: your own time management skills will need to be excellent as this is very much an autonomous role within a busy, dynamic and friendly team. There is direct line management of a Band 6 specialist support nurse. There is caseload management of a large cohort of ENT patients
Although a busy role, there is plenty of support across an experienced team which comprises Surgeons, Trainees, clinic nurses and HCAs and administrative staff. The team is approachable and this role is well-supported by the Matron team including the direct line manager for this post
This role is responsible for some of the most complex ENT children in the region and shares a caseload with our colleagues in the Long Term Ventilation service
