Role summary
This is an exciting 12-month secondment opportunity for an experienced cancer nurse to work as a Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse within the Rigby Unit at Stratford Hospital, with potential cross-site cover at Aylesford Unit, Warwick Hospital. The role involves working in day case, outpatient, and inpatient settings, developing nurse-led assessment and clinics, and providing high-quality patient care. You will be part of a committed team, working primarily Monday to Friday, with opportunities for professional development.
Essential criteria
- First Level RN
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Diploma/Degree in haematology/oncology
- Recognised chemotherapy qualification
- Moving and handling, basic CPR IT Skills, intravenous drug administration
- Venepuncture and cannulation skills
- A minimum of 12 months experience at band 5 in haematology/oncology with evidence of continued professional development in this area
- Evidence of recent experience in chemotherapy administration
- Able initiate and deliver high quality nursing care
- Can plan, delegate and supervise others
- Able to manage clinical area effectively
- Demonstrates ability to initiate the implementation of evidence-based practice
- Able to lead in clinical audit
- Able to assist to manage resources within a budget
- Aware of current NHS issues and priorities
- Able to lead and develop an effective team
- Able to express self clearly and confidently - verbal and written within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrates commitment and ability to teach others
- Initiates change
- Able to achieve personal objectives

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced cancer nurse to take on this specialist nursing role. You will primarily work within the Rigby Unit at Stratford Hospital although due to service demand there may be cross-site cover required for Aylesford Unit, Warwick Hospital also.
The post requires vision, innovation and the ability to work across professional boundaries, underpinned by a real desire to provide the highest standards of patient care. You will work within the day case, out patient and inpatient settings. As an experienced haematology or oncology nurse, you will be required to develop your knowledge and skills to undertake nurse-led assessment and nurse-led clinics.
You will be part of a committed team of professionals and work closely with the Nurse Consultant - Cancer Services, the Advanced Nurse Practitioners and other Specialist Practitioners within our team. We offer a friendly and supportive work environment, participation in clinical supervision and excellent opportunities for professional development.
